Our Mission
At NZTPC, our overarching mission is to ensure that New Zealand's timber is properly treated, so it can stand the test of time when used in building applications.
To achieve this, the NZ Timber Preservation Council has three main roles: acting as the voice of the nations timber treatment and preservation industry, managing the quality assurance programme for treated timber known as WOODmark® and acting as a source of information for the public and trades.
Our Key Roles
Advocacy
We act as the single voice of the wood treatment industry, consistently representing and advocating for its interests with a unified approach.
Compliance
We ensure timber is treated to the highest quality while ensuring that the timber treatment industry complies with health and safety and environmental protection standards.
Information and Guides
We provide the public, professionals in the building trade, and all of our WOODmark® licensees with the information they need to treat and use timber appropriately.
WOODmark® Programme
We are responsible for managing and promoting the WOODmark® quality assurance programme for treated timber through conferences, education seminars and information publications.
Licensing Management
We manage the timber treatment plant registration numbering system so that consumers, regulators and industry participants can easily identify where their timber was treated.
Our Story
The NZ Timber Preservation Council (NZTPC) was established in 1987 as an industry organisation to manage and operate the WOODmark® programme, an independent national quality assurance brand for timber treatment.
The NZTPC succeeded the Timber Preservation Authority, a government body responsible for ensuring timber was preservative treated according to government regulations. With the creation of the NZTPC, an ISO9000-based quality assurance programme was introduced, replacing the previous prescriptive inspection system for treated timber operations.
Since its inception, the NZTPC has championed the WOODmark® program, providing strong support to licensees and educating both them and the public on the importance of using properly treated timber.
