HSNO Approved Handler Courses

All treatment plants should now have approved handlers who have met the criteria in accordance with Regulation 5 of the Hazardous Substances & New Organisms (Personal Qualifications) Act.

For those that have not received certificates as yet from previous courses, it is possible that you may need to provide further information so should contact me directly to tidy up these outstanding certificates.

Due to demand the TPC will be conducting further HSNO Approved Handler courses in October.

We are able to confirm the following dates and locations. Should we have requests for other areas throughout New Zealand, please let me know and we may run further courses should it be warranted although these will be the last courses run for 2005.

ROTORUA:
Tuesday, 25 October, 9.00am – 1.00pm, Quality Hotel Geyserland, Fenton St,Rotorua.

GORE:
Wednesday, 26 October, 9.00am – 1.00pm, Croydon Hotel, Gore Queenstown Highway.

The cost for Certification & HSNO course is as follows:

Full Certificate:
TPC licensees $150.00 + GST
Non TPC licensees $300.00 + GST
A light lunch will be provided to all attendees.

As stated previously the course covers the following criteria.

1. Describe the HSNO hazard classifications for the timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals for which she/he is to be an approved handler.

2. Explain the adverse effects that could be caused by each of the substances.

3. Explain the controls that are imposed under HSNO in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.

4. Describe the obligations and liabilities as an approved handler for timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.

5. Describe the regulations that apply in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.

6. Describe the conditions of his or her test certificate as an approved handler.

Please find an enrolment and experience form in the HSNO section of this website and fax back to the TPC office as soon as possible should you wish to attend.

Those that do not complete the experience form fully will not be issued a certificate.
