HSNO Approved Handler Courses

All treatment plants should now have approved handlers who have met the criteria in accordance with Regulation 5 of the Hazardous Substances & New Organisms (Personal Qualifications) Act.

For those that have not received certificates as yet from previous courses, it is possible that you may need to provide further information so should contact me directly to tidy up these outstanding certificates.

Due to demand the TPC will be conducting further HSNO Approved Handler courses in April.

We are able to confirm the following dates and locations. Should we have requests for other areas throughout New Zealand, please let me know and we may run further courses should it be warranted.

HAMILTON:
Tuesday, 4 April, 9.00am – 1.00pm, Novotel Tainui, 7 Alma Street, Hamilton.

CHRISTCHURCH:
Thursday, 6 April, 9.00am – 1.00pm, Commodore Airport Hotel, 449 Memorial Avenue

The cost for Certification & HSNO course is as follows:

Full Certificate: TPC licensees $200.00 + GST Non TPC licensees $400.00 + GST
A light lunch will be provided to all attendees.

As stated previously the course covers the following criteria.

1. Describe the HSNO hazard classifications for the timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals for which she/he is to be an approved handler.
2. Explain the adverse effects that could be caused by each of the substances.
3. Explain the controls that are imposed under HSNO in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
4. Describe the obligations and liabilities as an approved handler for timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
5. Describe the regulations that apply in respect of timber treatment and antisapstain chemicals.
6. Describe the conditions of his or her test certificate as an approved handler.

Once the course has been completed, I will assess your information on the experience form and proceed to issue a certificate once all the information has been completed.
